The Atelier

Behind each piece lies a story, a material, a presence.

I am Annaëlle Emery, founder of L’Héritière des Belles Ombres, a studio devoted to the creation and restoration of antique lighting, based in Pau.

Each piece emerges from an artisanal approach, where light, materials, and proportions enter into dialogue with the history of the object.

My
story

A JOURNEY GUIDED BY MATERIALS

After scientific studies, I naturally moved away from an overly automated environment, where the place of craftsmanship and human sensitivity had become scarce.

Drawn to creative fields and objects rich with history, I then trained in interior design.

This experience strengthened a deep conviction: the most vibrant spaces are those that preserve and reinterpret the objects that have passed through them.

THE VALUE OF ANTIQUE OBJECTS

I grew up surrounded by antique furniture and objects that have endured the years and countless moves without losing their character or splendor.

Solid wood, leather, copper, brass: these materials tell a story and reflect lasting craftsmanship.

To me, preserving these objects and giving them a new life is much more than work — it is a way of continuing their story.

THE WORK OF THE ATELIER

In my studio, each lighting piece is approached with patience and care.

Structures are observed, proportions studied, and materials carefully selected to preserve the balance and character of each piece.

Objects from the past have lived stories we will never know — only imagine.

They have passed through places, lives, and eras.
The work of the studio is to respect this memory while offering each piece a renewed luminous presence.

Objects created with a true appreciation for materials and craftsmanship carry a value far beyond those produced solely for speed and mass.

Some lamps have already illuminated multiple lives.
The work of the atelier is simply to allow them to light up others.
