The Atelier
Preserving heritage.
Creating tomorrow's heirlooms.
I’m Annaëlle Emery, founder of L’Héritière des Belles Ombres.
Here, I restore antique lighting and create bespoke pieces for those who want a home that truly reflects who they are.
Every project is approached with the same level of care: respecting each material, refining every proportion, and creating pieces that feel as though they have always belonged.

A HOME WITH SOUL OFTEN BEGINS WITH A SINGLE DETAIL
Some choose a light fixture simply because it illuminates a room.
Others choose one because it tells a story.
I belong to those who believe that the objects surrounding us shape the soul of a home.
A restored antique lampshade, a lamp designed especially for a home, or a bespoke pendant light become far more than decorative objects. They accompany everyday moments, preserve memories, and sometimes even span generations.
It is this belief that guides every project created in the atelier.

WHY THIS CRAFT BECAME MY CALLING
After completing scientific studies, I felt the need to return to a profession where craftsmanship, attention to detail, and creativity could truly flourish.
I then chose to train in interior design, convinced that the objects surrounding us profoundly shape the way we experience a home.
It didn't take long before one thing became clear.
It wasn't only the spaces themselves that fascinated me, but the objects that give them their soul.
Lighting, above all.
Because it transforms an atmosphere, naturally draws the eye, and quietly accompanies everyday life—sometimes for generations.
That is how L'Héritière des Belles Ombres was born.
An atelier where restoration and bespoke creation come together around a single belief: the most beautiful interiors are not those that follow trends, but those that tell a story.
Even today, every project begins in exactly the same way: with a conversation.
TWO PATHS, ONE PHILOSOPHY
Every project that enters the atelier is unique.
Some begin with an antique light fixture whose story deserves to be preserved.
Others start with a blank page, a home taking shape, or a very specific vision.
Yet the approach remains exactly the same.
Taking the time to understand.
Studying the proportions.
Selecting the right materials.
Imagining the light.
Creating a piece that feels as though it has always belonged.
Whether I am restoring a century-old lampshade or designing a completely bespoke light fixture, my goal is always the same:
To create a piece that will stand the test of time and become part of your home for years to come.
RESTORE
Preserving what deserves to be preserved, respecting each piece's story, and giving it new life without compromising its identity.
CREATE
Designing a unique light fixture inspired by your vision, your home, and the way you live, creating a timeless piece that feels as though it has always belonged.
Some light fixtures have stood the test of generations.
Others are only just beginning their story.
All are created with the same level of care.

ENTRUSTING YOUR LIGHT FIXTURE IS A MATTER OF TRUST
I know that a light fixture is not always just an object
It may have been part of a home for years, belonged to a loved one, or simply held a special, meaningful place in your interior.

That is why I believe that neither a restoration nor a bespoke creation ever begins with fabric, trims, or tools.
It begins with a conversation.
Before making any proposal, we take the time to discuss your project, your vision, your home, and what you hope your light fixture will become.
Every decision is made together, ensuring the final piece truly reflects you.
I approach every project with the same level of care, whether restoring an antique lampshade or creating a bespoke piece designed entirely for you.
My role is not to impose my vision.
It is to bring yours to life.

LISTENING
Every project begins with a conversation to understand your vision, your home, and your expectations.

RESPECT
When restoring a light fixture, I always strive to preserve its original identity before transforming it.

GUIDANCE
You remain involved throughout the project, and every major decision is agreed upon together before the work begins.
Entrusting a light fixture to an artisan requires trust.
That trust isn't earned once the project is complete. It begins with our very first conversation.
If I believe an idea might compromise the balance of your light fixture or not suit its character, I will always tell you honestly.
My goal is not to complete as many projects as possible, but to create the right ones—always with respect for each piece and your vision.
What you can expect from the atelier
Entrusting a light fixture to an artisan is, above all, a relationship built on trust.
These are the commitments that guide every project I undertake, whether it is a restoration or a bespoke creation.

One contact
From our first conversation to the final delivery, you will always work with the same person.
I know your project, its story, and your expectations.

A project designed to last
I favour quality materials and traditional craftsmanship to create light fixtures designed to stand the test of time.

Clear and transparent communication
You are welcome to ask any questions before, during, or after your project.
I will always take the time to answer them honestly.

Personalised guidance across France and internationally
Your project can be completed entirely remotely. I will guide you through packing, shipping, and every step of the process.

Every project is unique
I never work from standardised designs. Every restoration and every bespoke creation is considered individually.

A respectful approach
Whenever possible, I always preserve the elements that contribute to the light fixture's original identity.
Questions I’m often asked

What if I'm not exactly sure what I want?
That's perfectly normal. Many projects begin with nothing more than a few photographs and a conversation. We shape the rest together.

What if I live hundreds of miles away?
The atelier regularly undertakes projects entirely remotely. I will guide you through shipping and remain available throughout the entire process.

What if my light fixture is badly damaged?
Even when a lampshade appears beyond repair, there are often several possibilities. I will always explain what can be done before any work begins.

What if my original idea isn't the right one after all?
My role is also to advise you. If I believe a different approach would be more harmonious, more durable, or better suited to your home, I will always explain why.
You don't need to know whether your project is possible.
That's exactly what I'm here for.
Whether it's a restoration, a bespoke creation, or simply a question, everything begins with a first conversation, with no obligation.
A few photographs, a few words, or a simple phone call are all it takes to start imagining what comes next.
How does a project at the atelier unfold?

You send me a few photos
A few photos and some basic information are all I need to begin understanding your project.

We discuss your project together
We discuss your vision, your home, the story behind your light fixture, and the possibilities it offers.

I recommend the most suitable solution
I send you a clear and detailed proposal. Together, we validate every important step before the work begins.

Your light fixture returns home
I carefully bring your project to life and return it to you beautifully protected, ready to illuminate your home.

Some lamps have already illuminated multiple lives.
The work of the atelier is simply to allow them to light up others.
